Peter W. Hutchins
Peter W. Hutchins is a lawyer specializing in Canadian Aboriginal law in private practice based in Montréal, Québec at Hutchins Legal Inc. His career of almost forty years has been devoted exclusively to advancing the rights of Aboriginal peoples. As a litigator, Hutchins has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, the courts of Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, the Northwest Territories, as well as the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.〔Lewandowski, René ("Les meilleurs avocats de Montréal...et de Québec" )〕 In addition to litigating, he has worked to improve the litigation process, notably by advocating that expert witness be less partisan and more independent.〔Gibb-Clark, Margot ("Divergent Opinions: Canada's judges want expert witnesses to be less partisan and more independent. He has been involved in negotiations concerning historic and contemporary treaties between First Nations and the Crown in right of Canada.
